‘The past few months have been amazing for us as we have been a band for such a short amount of time and have received so many great opportunities, we want to continue playing as many shows as we can and write some new music along the way.”

Blending the instrumentals of post-hardcore with vocal and guitar elements of the emo and shoegaze genres, Funeral strives to create music that stands outside of one particular genre.

First forming when the drummer, Eden, and rhythm guitarist/vocalist, James, first met in school, Funeral really picked up steam with the addition of Eryin, the bassist of funeral, who the pair met in college.

Once booking their first official gig, Kai joined Funeral, filling the role of lead guitarist and vocalist and the group hasn’t stopped writing and playing live since.

Influenced by bands like Basement, Superheaven and Title Fight, a lot of Funeral’s inspiration for songwriting and vocals come from Title Fight’s lead singer, Ned Russin.

The band has recently done a two-show stint performing as the support act for Crywank, an English anti-folk band based in Manchester, England on their UK tour. The band refers to these performances as one of their best experiences performing live:

“It was awesome to play two shows with a band that we grew up listening to and it was definitely a great opportunity to play sold out shows in Plymouth and Exeter. Those shows were so much fun and we met loads of awesome people at them.”

As for future aims, Funeral have voiced how they are hoping to expand their reach by booking shows in Bristol and are also making connections in London and Brighton.

“Going on tour is also a huge goal we would like to work towards as it is a dream of ours and would be a great step forward as a band.”

Funeral are also working on recording and independently releasing their debut EP, which they plan to release on Bandcamp.

Funeral have two upcoming live performances:

Torquay, 29th August, Burnitdown fest.

Exeter, 28th October, with Free Throw & Prince daddy & the hyena.
